Amica Mea is a 46.33-metre (152′) Royal Hakvoort, delivered in 2004 to a design by Vripack with interior and exterior styling by Glade Johnson Design. Her full-displacement steel hull measures 499 GT and carries a transatlantic range of 4,500 nautical miles at a comfortable 12-knot cruise (14 knots top), steadied by Naiad zero-speed stabilizers.

She has benefited from a substantial technical programme completed between 2023 and 2025, including a gearbox rebuild, two new watermakers, replacement of through-hull valves, generator overhauls, new bridge monitors and radar, and new carpeting throughout, and completed her 20-year Lloyd’s survey in 2024.

Accommodating 11 guests across five staterooms with a crew of nine, Amica Mea is a turnkey, ocean-capable explorer presented in excellent condition.

The shipyard

FIVE GENERATIONS

A Monnickendam family yard that moved from wooden fishing boats to steel, aluminium and Royal status.

In 2022 Abel Hakvoort, son of Klaas, joined the yard as project manager, the fifth generation of the family to work there. The line begins in 1919 with Albert Klzn. Hakvoort.

From 1919 to 1945 the yard built wooden fishing boats. Steel construction followed from 1946 to 1980. Its first venture into luxury yachts was the Striker series of 1980–1988, aluminium sportfishers from 17.6 to 21.3 metres, of which 14 were delivered. The 31-metre Tonga of 1985 was its first custom superyacht.

The 50-metre Lady Marina arrived in 1994 and the 63-metre Scout in 2019. In 1999 the yard expanded its joinery division as Unlimited Interiors, which also takes subcontract work from other shipyards, and in 2020 Hakvoort received the Royal designation. The 61-metre Asia (2024) left the Netherlands on 18 May 2024 as the eighth Hakvoort built with Moran Yacht & Ship. The 45.2-metre Milele won a Neptune at the 2024 World Superyacht Awards.

The yard works from Havenstraat 22, Monnickendam. It builds in steel, aluminium and wood, takes on yachts up to 70 metres and has purpose-built facilities for major refits.

Amica Mea, 46.33 metres, was built here in 2004 as Flamingo Daze and refitted in 2020. Glade Johnson designed her exterior and interior, with naval architecture by Vripack.

UNDER ONE ROOF

Dick Boon's Sneek studio, founded in 1961, and the expedition yachts that defined it.

In 1961 Dick Boon founded Vripack so that yachts could be designed under one roof. Vripack says his Doggersbank series earned him the title "Father of the Expedition Yacht". The studio's headquarters are at Oppenhuizerweg 2 in Sneek. It now has 40 designers, engineers and naval architects, and its portfolio runs to more than 8,000 projects. Creative directors Bart M. Bouwhuis and Marnix J. Hoekstra lead it. Vripack handled the naval architecture, exterior and interior of the 54.85-metre Al Waab, delivered by Alia Yachts in 2021, which won three prizes at the 2022 BOAT Design & Innovation Awards. It did the same for Royal Huisman's 52-metre sportfisher Special One, which won Best Naval Architecture for semi-displacement or planing motor yachts in 2025. Amica Mea, a 46.33-metre Royal Hakvoort from 2004, was built to a design by Vripack.

A Seattle firm that styled yachts inside and out, with credits from Grace (1991) to Gipta (2010).

Glade Johnson was a Seattle design firm that worked on both exterior styling and interiors. BOAT's BOATPro database credits it with the design of 21 yachts and the interiors of 30, all over 24 metres. It designed both the exterior and the interior of the 56.4-metre Starship, delivered by Delta Marine in 2000, and of the 58.55-metre Capri I, built by Lürssen in 2003. It drew the exterior lines of the 58.5-metre Grace, delivered in 1991 by Australian YB. Its interiors include the 42.56-metre Moonshadow (Feadship, 2003) and the 60-metre Gipta (Lürssen, 2010). Amica Mea is a 46.33-metre Royal Hakvoort from 2004, built to a design by Vripack. Her exterior and interior are by Glade Johnson.
