AUSTRALIAN ALUMINIUM
A builder of aluminium motor yachts whose hulls are still being refitted, and lengthened, decades on.
Kokomo II went back to Queensland, to Rivergate Marina & Shipyard, for an eight-month refit that lengthened her from 34 to 37 metres. BOAT called the visit a return to her birthplace. She was a Lloyds Ships yacht from 1987, designed by Jack Hargrave.
Lloyds Ships was an Australian builder of aluminium motor yachts. Its hulls in BOAT International's directory run from the 27.43-metre Bahama (1981) to its largest, the 49.85-metre Renegade (1992), a semi-displacement yacht with naval architecture by Bernie Cohen and an exterior by Cohen and Allan Dowd. The 46-metre Cloud Atlas (1990) has naval architecture by Lloyds and Studio Francesco Rogantin. Several hulls have been lengthened in later refits.
